Afghanistan
On a trip to Afghanistan in May 2007, the founder of Eternal Threads and a board member researched ways to help alleviate the extreme poverty and oppression that the Afghan women endure.
Our first partner in Afghanistan provided vocational training in jewelry making to several women artisans. We are now offering their beautiful King’s Garden Bracelet and Tear Drop Necklace for sale. Literacy training was provided to the women artisans with proceeds from the sale of these bracelets.
Eternal Threads is now in the process of developing a carpet-weaving project in a desolate village in Western Afghanistan. Many of the women in the village are widowed and must labor to provide for their families. Eternal Threads has purchased 5 looms and trained the women to dye their own wool. A generous donor gave $1000 to buy sheep for the women, enabling them to start their own herd that will provide them with wool for their products (more).
