Be an Ambassador

In July of 2005 Linda Egle spoke to a group of Jr. High campers that I happened to be working with.  The point of her visit was to show the kids how one person could make a difference in the lives of others.  After returning home Linda's mission remained etched in my mind. After several conversations with Linda in 2008 we scheduled a Gathering Sale in Athens, Texas for November.  It was a family affair.  With my husband, Dave, pitching in and my daughter, Andrea, coming home from A&M for the weekend, the Gathering Sale was a great success.  Many friends volunteered by providing refreshments and working in the sale.  The preliminary work was so important.  Many address lists were collected from friends and printed invitations were mailed out.  Invitations were also placed around town in Dr.'s offices, hair salons, spas and churches.  Posters were placed around our small town in stores, an athletic complex, and other businesses.  My friends verbally spread the word, too.

The largest sale was scheduled at an old warehouse building one block off the town square on a Friday from 10:00am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Sales were awesome and more than $5,000 in merchandise was purchased.  The other sales were smaller but were for my cooking club, book club and a medical clinic where patients and staff were excited to participate for the cause.  My book club was so pleased to be a part of helping women in poverty.  We had read many books about women and children in Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, and India, so awareness was present and most seized the opportunity to act and return help to those that had touched our hearts for the last couple of years.  Anyone that participated felt great joy that the item they purchased gave both ways.  The recipient was blessed and the craftsman was blessed for her efforts. A brochure was given with the purchases because the majority of buyers wanted to tell the Eternal Threads story to those receiving the gifts.  One friend decided to have a cultural Christmas and chose gifts from all of the countries represented by Eternal Threads. This was a most rewarding experience for those of us who were blessed to partner with Eternal Threads.
