Anti-Trafficking

One of Eternal Threads partners works on the Nepal/India border to rescue young women and girls who are being trafficked into brothels in India.

An anti-trafficking border unit is manned by workers who each day watch the border crossings carefully for signs of trafficking. Once they spot a possible incident, they stop the party for questioning, an action which is supported by the border police. By separating the girl from the people who are possibly trafficking her, they are then able to determine by asking questions and comparing stories if this truly is a situation of trafficking.

Once girls or women are identified as victims they are taken from their traffickers to a safe place where they can either be returned to their families or learn a vocational trade in a safe house. The traffickers are taken for further questioning by the police, which can lead to prosecution.

Each anti-trafficking unit rescues up to 100 women a month along these borders and costs $360 to fund and maintain.
